A decrease in collagen and adipose tissue content is inevitable in aging skin. As a result, sagging, collapses and wrinkles may occur in the aging skin. By using fillers, the skin becomes younger, livelier and healthier. It is possible to divide the fillers into two main groups. The first is with the person’s own tissue, that is, autogenous, and the second is some materials that are applied externally. Among the ready-to-apply fillers, the most widely used and most reliable in the world are the preparations containing hyaluronic acid. The “hyaluronic acid” used as a filler is actually a natural substance found in the skin. Hyaluronic acid preparations are a stabilized acid that does not contain animal raw materials. It is available in various forms and it is an FDA approved product. The permanence of fillers containing hyaluronic acid varies between 6 months and 1 year. Among other ready-made fillers, those containing calcium hydroxylapatite provide permanence for 24 months. Local anesthetic cream or ice application can be preferred to increase comfort before the application. The application is made with microinjections into the skin. The patient may experience very little discomfort. Results are visible immediately. There may be temporary edema and redness at the injection site. It will disappear in a few days. Fillers are mostly used for lip augmentation, forehead lines, mouth and smile lines, and wrinkles around the eyes.
